2010-2011 Season Schedule



A season subscription provides admission for the following 6 concerts plus one voucher to share with a friend! All concerts are held at the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center in Richmond, Indiana. 

Classical Indulgence

Bach - Concerto for Two Violins
Mozart - Overture to Cosi fan tutte
Beethoven - Symphony No. 8
Arvo Pàrt - Fratres (Brethren)
 
RSO Concertmaster, Harvey Thurman and Associate Concertmaster Josh Ulrich play the graceful and moving   Bach Concerto for Two Violins.  The evening will contrast Mozart and Beethoven with Estonian composer Arvo Párt's modern classic Fratres (Brethren).

Glass - Facade
Adams - The Chairman Dances from the opera Nixon in China         
Grieg - Piano Concerto
Sibelius - Symphony No. 3 

 A Mini-Max extravaganza features Facade by Philip Glass and The Chairman Dances by John Adams from his much talked about opera Nixon in China.  These two 'minimalists' works share the stage with classics from Edvard Grieg and Jean Sibelius.  Pianist Anton Nel will return for his third appearance with the RSO to perform Grieg's Piano Concerto.

Music of stage and screen decorate this holiday season "Pops" concert.  Michael Chertock, our guest pianist, will be spotlighted in several short works  He will also play Gerschwin's Rhapsody in Blue and the sole Piano Concerto by the great "Pops" composer Leroy Anderson.

Aaron Copland, Maurice Ravel, Richard Wagner, and Gustav Mahler
Benjamin Britten's Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra

This evening Maestro Guy Bordo launches a four-year project of "Exploring  the Orchestra."  First we will Meet the Orchestra with works highlighting the various sections:  Aaron Copland for percussion, Maurice Ravel for woodwinds, Richard Wagner to show off the brass and Gustav Mahler for the lushness of the strings - and to tie it all together Benjamin Britten's Young Persons Guide to the Orchestra, narrated by Bob Johnstone.

Samuel Barber - First Essay for Orchestra
Saint-Saëns - Third Violin Concerto
Dvorak - Eighth Symphony                                                               

To herald's spring's arrival the RSO offers an evening of Romantic music. Opening the evening will be First Essay for Orchestra by Samuel Barber.  Internationally renowned violinist, Andres Cardenes, will join the RSO in the Saint-Saëns Third Violin Concerto and our evening closes with Dvorak's brilliant and beautiful Eighth Symphony.

Young Artist Competition Winner
Orchestra within an Orchestra

RSO Singers

The season concludes with a night at the movies.  The Orchestra's principal oboist, Lorraine Dorsey, is featured along with the RSO Singers and the Young Artist Competition Winner, in music ranging from Strauss to Star Wars, Mozart to Mission Impossible and many other movie memories along the way.
