Free Brass Concert
What could be more magnificent and majestic than a brass choir playing in the spacious confines of a church? The thrill is yours as you join Guy Bordo and the brass of the Richmond Symphony Orchestra in this special concert. The wonderful acoustics of Holy Family Church will showcase the RSO Brass in a wide-ranging sampling of music from four centuries. They open in 1600 with music by Giovanni Gabrieli, composed for the acoustic splendor of St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice. Then it’s off to the baroque creations of Bach and Handel. The first half ends with Edvard Grieg’s lovely “Holberg Suite,” a tribute to his 17th century forebear, the poet Ludwig Holberg. The second half opens with music from our own time, Eric Ewazen’s “Western Suite;”short pieces by Bruckner and Strauss follow, and the concert ends with a spirited arrangement of a famous Tango from the Twenties, “Jealousy.” Join us for the fun!
