The RSO’s final concert of this 60th season celebrates the past while honoring the present, opening with current composer Frank Ticheli’s exciting Pacific Fanfare. Two ever popular 19th Century Scandinavian works follow: Edvard Grieg’s haunting Peer Gynt Suite and neighbor Jean Sibelius’ powerful Finlandia surrounding Stuart Greenbaum’s 21st Century City Lights a Mile Up. The season draws to a close with one of the most appealing of 20th Century American symphonies, the melodic Symphony No. 2, “Romantic,” by Howard Hanson.
