Carol Aufmann, a Washington, D.C. native and graduate of the Indiana University School of Music, has played principal bassoon with the Richmond Symphony Orchestra since 1995.

Prior to moving to Cincinnati, Carol played with the Columbus (Ohio) Symphony and the Baltimore Chamber Orchestra and was the first-call substitute with the National Symphony Orchestra. She has been on the faculty of the DC Youth Orchestra Program, the Levine School of Music, Howard University, and the CCM Prep Department.

In addition to performing with the RSO, Carol plays with the Blue Ash-Montgomery Symphony, the Broadway in America series at the Aronoff Center, the Wayside Winds, and occasionally substitutes on bassoon and contrabassoon with the Cincinnati Symphony.

Carol is married to Ron Aufmann, bass clarinetist with the Cincinnati Symphony. Their son Daniel, a Ph.D. candidate at the University of Minnesota, is a silent film historian.
