The Richmond Symphony Orchestra: Who We Are
The Richmond Symphony Orchestra (RSO) is in its 70th season and under the leadership of its
fourth Music Director, Maestro Andres Lopera. Executive Director, Monica Koechlein, has been
with the Symphony for 13 years. In the past three seasons, the RSO has set new standards of musical excellence and is attracting its largest audiences in history.
The RSO is a professional orchestra drawing musicians from the tri-state area as well as accomplished students from the University of Cincinnati-College Conservatory of Music and
Indiana University Jacobs School of Music. The RSO annually issues 70 contracts to its musicians.
Subscription Concert Programming
Season programming includes a seven-concert subscription series with five Classical concerts and two family concerts. Performances are held one time with Classical concerts traditionally on Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm and Family concerts on Sunday afternoons at 3:00 pm.
Educational Programming
Youth programming is a priority to the RSO. Currently, the RSO holds one education concert annually for third and fourth graders in which instrument introduction is a priority. Musicians are also contracted to visit schools and offer master classes a handful of times throughout the school year.
Outreach Programming
Our Summer Series supports five events throughout the summer with ensemble performances. Five additional community appearances throughout the year are requested and approved, again with ensemble performances. The RSO’s Signature Event has become one of the most highly anticipated fundraisers of the year in Richmond with a full orchestra performance. That event is held in April.

We pride ourselves not only as an artistic staple in Wayne County, but also a beloved regional orchestra. We hope to have you join us on stage for our 2026-2027 concert season and trust that you will find RSO is a special place to be! At the moment, our only musician opening is for substitute musician positions.
