Richmond Symphony Orchestra begins its 2021-22 season Saturday.

RSO’s “String Orchestra Gems” begins at 7:30 p.m. Saturday in the Civic Hall Performing Arts Center, 380 Hub Etchison Parkway, according to a release. The concert also will be the start of conductor Guy Victor Bordo’s 25th and final season with the RSO.

Saturday’s concert marks RSO’s return to the Civic Hall stage for the first time since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. RSO’s 2019-20 season was stopped in March 2020, and the 2020-21 season was cancelled.

The concert includes Donizetti’s “Allegro in C for Strings,” Purcell’s “Chacony in G Minor,” Holst’s “St. Paul’s Suite,” Mendelssohn’s “String Symphony No. 5,” Corigliano’s “Voyage for String Orchestra” and  Bartok’s “Romanian Folk Dances.”

Show tickets are available for $20 or $25 for box seats. Children younger than 18 are free. Season tickets are also available starting at $85 for the six-concert season. Purchase tickets online at RichmondSymphony.org or by calling 765-966-5181.

The other concerts in the “Right Here, Right Now” season are “Cardenes Plays Tchaiokovsky” featuring violist Andres Cardenes on Oct. 23, “Marvelous Movie Music” on Dec. 5, “Classics by Great Masters” on Jan. 29, “Memorable Melodies” featuring cellist Mark Kosmala on March 5 and “A Concert of Firsts” featuring cellist Andres Diaz performing the newly commissioned “Cello Concerto” by Alyssa Morris on April 9.

The RSO also still has one of its six Sunset Series events remaining. The free event will be Oct. 7 at Hayes Arboretum. Reservations are required.
