A season without a major work of Beethoven would be like a rainbow without blue. Beethoven’s early Second Symphony marked the true arrival of a revolutionary giant in music. Samuel Barber’s Violin Concerto combines soft and caressing melodies with dazzling virtuosity — a fitting vehicle to introduce as soloist our new Concertmaster, Mari Thomas. Gracing these two masterworks, the RSO will offer the lovely Air for Strings by American composer Norman Dello Joio, and the Overture to “The Italian Girl in Algiers” by the great Rossini.

Be sure to wear a pop of blue!
