Good friends bring joy into your life. Great friends bring music. Maestro Andrés Lopera’s inaugural RSO season begins with a program that celebrates great friends and great music. Evoking an exuberant and celebratory atmosphere, Dvořák’s “Carnival Overture” welcomes friends old and new, while Liszt’s “Les Preludes”—the first musical poem ever composed—follows with imagery of love and nature. The program concludes with the incredible “Enigma Variations” by Edward Elgar, a piece in which the theme represents the composer and the subsequent 14 variations as musical sketches of some of his closest friends. Bring a friend and share the magic of your Richmond Symphony Orchestra.
